Edward Norton Hoped To 'Mix It Up' With Robert De Niro In 'Stone'

'We know each other's rhythms,' actor says of working with De Niro before in 'The Score.'By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Given their collective bodies of work, and reputations for being serious thespians, Edward Norton and Robert De Niro seem like a perfect co-starring pair. Their first onscreen appearance together was in the 2001 heist thriller "The Score," and their second, "Stone," arrives in theaters this week.
In the film, Norton plays cold, calculating and convicted arsonist Stone Creeson, who is serving out the last few years of his sentence when he comes up for parole. In order to be released, he has to convince his very spiritual parole officer (De Niro) that he is ready to be back in the real world.

When MTV News caught up with the former Incredible Hulk, we asked him how he and De Niro came together for a second time and to describe their working relationship.
"He was really supportive of me and encouraging me even before we did 'The Score,' " Norton said. "So I felt good going into that one, but the nature of the material, it was a lot of fun. It wasn't maybe what you dream of when you say, 'Oh, I'd love to do a movie with Robert De Niro someday.' This was much more that," he explained of his work on "Stone."
Norton said what attracted him to the role was, first, a personal phone call from Mr. De Niro, and also the challenge of creating dramatic tension out of two people talking.
"When I found out he was in it, and he rang me up too and said, 'This could be really good for us,' that was exciting," Norton recalled. "I definitely felt that this will be good for us, and we know each other's rhythms and we can really mix it up in a way that would be thrilling to me."
Sure the convict-vs.-parole-officer thing has been done in film before, but if anyone can put a new spin on it, it's Norton and De Niro.

News Roundup: 'Deadliest Catch' Stars Return to Show, 'Melissa and Joey' Gets a Full Season and More

Filed under: TV NewsThe 'Deadliest Catch' rumors reported earlier this week are true: Capts. Sig Hansen and Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand are returning to the show.

After the Hillstrands were sued by Discovery for not completing work on a spinoff series, they announced they would not participate in the upcoming season of 'Deadliest Catch.' Hansen followed suit and dropped out in solidarity with the brothers.

But now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the Hillstrands have resolved their legal issues -- they'll finish work on the spinoff and participate in 'Deadliest Catch,' and Discovery has dropped the lawsuit. "I'm extremely pleased that we were able to resolve our clients' situation with Discovery," a lawyer for the brothers told THR. "The captains are very excited about the new season."

"We're happy we worked everything out with Discovery," the trio said in a statement. "A deal's a deal. We're heading up to Dutch Harbor to start filming the new season of 'Deadliest Catch' and hopefully it will be the best one yet."

The Situation Defends His Snooki 'Love Tap' On 'Jersey Shore'

Snooks, however, described the incident as a 'slap in the face' on the show.By Eric Ditzian

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino

Just call it a "love tap."
That's how the Situation describes one of the most talked-about moments from Thursday's episode of episode of "Jersey Shore." It all went down when Sitch was trying to round up the roomies after a night at the club. Snooki didn't want to leave, and to get her attention, he raised up his hand to her.
"Don't f---ing slap me in the face and tell me that I need to go home," Snickers said on the show.

But to hear it from the Situation, all he was trying to do was keep her safe and avoid another incident like the one that went down during season one, when a drunken bar-hopper punched Snooki in the face.
"Snooki sometimes drinks a little too much," he explained to MTV News. "She is unaware of her surroundings and unaware of what's going on. Everybody was leaving, and she was the only one staying there. We usually go as a group and stay as a group. To avoid what happened in season one, I really wanted to try and keep an eye on her and not necessarily slap some sense into her, but let her know, 'Hey, you can't be here by yourself. You're a little girl, and the whole group was leaving.' It was a little love tap."
While the Situation maintained he had the best of intentions, he does acknowledge that he might have "went about it the wrong way or went about it too seriously." Yet he stopped short of expressing regret for his actions, adding, "I never regret anything."
"It's not like I punched somebody in the face," he continued. "It's not like I did a full smack, a hard smack. It was a little tap to her cheek. Like, 'Wake up, you're going to get hurt.' And if you care for somebody, that is definitely acceptable, because you're looking out for somebody."
What did you think of the incident? Share your thoughts in the comments.

'Wizard Of Oz' Prequel To Be Directed By Sam Raimi

Raimi is said to be eyeing Robert Downey Jr. to star in 'Oz, the Great and Powerful.'By Eric Ditzian

Sam Raimi will direct "Oz, the Great and Powerful," a 3-D prequel to the 1939, Judy Garland-starring "The Wizard of Oz," according to Deadline New York.
Disney and the former "Spider-Man" director are eyeing Robert Downey Jr. to star, and while it seems likely he'll join up, nothing has been set in writing.
Raimi's official commitment comes after word leaked in June that he was attached to the project. "Right now, we're still talking about making the movie. We don't have an agreement to make the film yet," Raimi told MTV News in July. "But it's a great script, and it would be great if we could come to an agreement and make the film, but it hasn't happened yet."
At the time, Raimi was also developing an adaptation of "World of Warcraft," but Deadline reports that he has committed to "Oz," with production expected to begin next year. The script is currently being rewritten by David Lindsay-Abaire, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his play "Rabbit Hole."
Downey was reportedly lukewarm about the project to begin with but began to shift his position as Raimi further developed the film. Helping matters was the more than $1 billion worldwide gross of Johnny Depp's "Alice in Wonderland," a 3-D tweaking of the well-known tale. In "Oz," Downey would play the Wizard of Oz before he became the iconic man behind the big green curtain.

Courtney Love Tweets Naked Photo Of Herself, Smartly Quits Twitter

You know that sinking feeling when you try to send your boyfriend a naked picture of yourself, but you accidentally post it to your Twitter account? Oh, you don’t know any part of that sentence? Really?? Not even the posting yourself naked to Twitter part? Geez. SORR-REY, THE POPE. Well, Courtney Love did that, and now she’s quitting Twitter because of it: Sexting is one thing. Accidentally posting a naked picture of yourself on your Twitter page is quite another. And that’s exactly what Courtney Love did. The singer immediately followed that up with this, “I’m off twitter. That photo was meant for a boy friend.” I completely understand Courtney’s decision to quit Twitter after she did that. This one time, I picked up my dry cleaning, then I meant to put the clothing on but I accidentally set it on fire and threw it at a baby. I’m never going back to THAT laundromat, let me tell you. I can’t imagine how embarrassed the person who put a naked photo of herself on the cover of her autobiography must be after this blurry photo that shows nothing surfaced. Not to mention the brief extra attention she received for it, none of which was intentional or welcomed. I would guess she’s like, 12 Embarrassed. That number sounds right. The Full Courtney Love Totally Accidental Naked Photo can be disappointingly seen after the jump (S-Enough-FW): …That’s it? I’m quitting Twitter too.Vanessa Williams Katie Holmes Tyler Perry Eminem

Island of Dr. Blonde-reau

Book your tickets to the Maldives now, an all blonde lady staffed resort is about to open! Reports Metro UK: Olialia (pronounced ‘Ooh La La’) is hoping that by opening a resort in the exotic Indian Ocean destination staffed entirely by fair-haired women, they can dispel the stereotype that blondes are ?less intelligent?. To this end, their plans include an education centre, where the secrets of ?how to always be perfect and look great? will be passed on to female guests, an airline and yacht service staffed only by blondes, including the pilots ? and other standard holiday services. A few things. First, if my blonde friend told me, “I’m going to take a job at a resort in the middle of the Indian Ocean, specifically the Maldives, which is a Muslim country (fun!), exclusively staffed by blondes. Byyyyeee!!” I’d be like, “You’re really dumb. I never thought you were dumb before, but this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever known you, or anyone, to do.” Second, you can’t in one sentence say that your goal is to dispel the myth that blondes are less intelligent and then in the next sentence say classes on said resort will include lessons in “how to always be perfect and look great.” A) That sounds like a crazy brainwash Stepford Wife situation and B) I know what blonde you’re trying to emulate and her name is Barbie and she is always perfect because she doesn’t speak, is made of hard plastic and has no genitalia. So, basically, these are classes in how to eliminate Free Will. Cool. Thirdly, how could the pilot be blonde? I don’t get it. Oh, the pilot is a WOMAN! Am I just a boring old brunette, jealous that no island has been made to celebrate me, as I identify exclusively with being a brunette? Well, yeah. It’s still dumb though.Timbaland Lindsay Lohan Kelly Preston Macaulay Culkin

Some Dreams Are Best Left Unrealized

Every child who has ever spent any time on a swing set has, at one point or another, thought to themselves, “Hmmm, I wonder if I could swing myself so hard that I’ll be able to flip over the bar?” Most of us never pursued that thought any further, and instead went along to tackle something else playground-related (like playing hopscotch or a game of horseshoes) during recess. However, this brave soul enlisted a few of his buddies to help him conquer the what most astrophysicists consider to be the Final Frontier: a full 360° rotation on a swing set. 'Bourne 4' To Be Directed By Tony Gilroy

Status of Matt Damon's involvement remains uncertain.By Eric Ditzian

Matt Damon as Jason Bourne in "The Bourne Ultimatum"

Matt Damon's status with regards to the "Bourne" franchise has been uncertain. In June, Universal made a bid for franchise continuity when it tapped Tony Gilroy, writer of the first three "Bourne" flicks, to pen the script for the fourth film. Gilroy was asked not only to draft the script — tentatively titled "The Bourne Legacy" — but to construct a franchise bible, suggesting the studio has big-screen plans for the franchise that extend behind the fourth installment in the series.
Universal has now brought Gilroy even more into the "Bourne" fold, according to Deadline.com, which reports that the studio has tapped him to direct the next film in the series.
"Legacy" was originally slated for a 2012 release date, but the project currently has no set schedule, nor is the status of Damon's involvement any more clear. The actor has stated he has no interest in stepping back into the role of Jason Bourne if Paul Greengrass, who directed the previous two installments of the franchise, is not behind the camera.
But Damon's name continues to pop up in reports about the film's development. Might he return to the franchise now that Gilroy, a steady "Bourne" presence, is directing? Gilroy has previously helmed the uneven "Duplicity" and the critically lauded "Michael Clayton," and he received an Oscar nomination for the latter.
Though Damon remains a question mark, "Bourne Legacy" has become a big priority for Universal. With a director in place, the studio will likely now focus on locking in acting talent.
For his part, Damon has cracked the door open to returning. "We don't want to risk [the franchise]; we really love it, we love the character and the three films. Doug Liman did the first one, and Paul did the second two," Damon told MTV News in December. "There's no reason to mess with it, unless you have a really good one to follow it up with."
MTV News' request for comment to Universal was not returned as of press time.

Drake Explains Sentiment Behind 'I Get Lonely Too'

New track, off upcoming mixtape It's Never Enough, drops on Tuesday.By Steven Roberts, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Photo: MTV News

While fans eagerly await Drake's R&B mixtape It's Never Enough, Drizzy has been carefully releasing news on what they can expect from it. And on Tuesday morning (October 5), he dropped one of the tape's tracks, "I Get Lonely Too," a delicately slow-moving track produced by Noah "40" Shebib.

When MTV News caught up with him during VMA rehearsals, Drake talked a bit about "I Get Lonely Too." Given his platinum debut album, the adoration of women and girls everywhere and the support of rap's premier crew, Young Money, you wouldn't necessarily think Drake could be lonely. But he explained that "you could be lonely with a bunch of people around you."
"I'm envious of friends of mine that have great committed relationships," he said. "When people call home to check on their girl or they say, 'I'm not going to go out tonight. I'm just going to spend the night with my girl.' That hits me, man. I just don't have that."
At the ripe age of 23, Drake said that he's had his fun. He's experienced the rush of nightclubs and strip clubs, but they have become bland.
"And also, I'm not going to be the one to drag my own name through the dirt, so to be with a different woman every night is a terrible decision," he said, explaining why he resists the temptation to sow his wild oats.
"If I can find a connection with somebody that can understand what goes on in this life — and when I say somebody who understands, I don't mean a girl that understands that I'm going to be with other girls; I mean just a girl that's supportive and makes it easy to exist and laugh," he said. "Laughing is a big thing. Conversation's got to flow. We got to laugh at the same things."
What do you think of Drake's new track? Share your reviews in the comments.

'Transformers 3' Star John Malkovich Calls Michael Bay 'Delightful'

'I found his reputation ... utterly unwarranted,' actor tells MTV News.By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

John Malkovich

Photo: MTV News/ James Kuo

Shia LaBeouf gives this advice to an actor working for the first time with fiery director Michael Bay: "You can only do so much. Fight or flight. A tap on the back and a 'Good luck!' "

LaBeouf's "Transformers 3" co-star John Malkovich — himself an intensely focused pro — needed no such well-wishes. Although it might seem like a collaboration between Bay and Malkovich would be ripe for an on-set conflagration, no such thing took place. In fact, the actor offered effusive praise for Bay during a recent interview with MTV News.
"I found Michael delightful," he told us. "I found him fun, filled with ideas, many of them different than the take before, which I'm perfectly used to because that's how I work anyway. I found his reputation, at least in my case, my experience, utterly unwarranted. But what do I know? Maybe he's changed."
Malkovich is no stranger to studio-driven action sets — he starred in "Con Air" and the upcoming "Red" — and noted how stressful it is for a director to manage a massive production with so many moving parts. He compared his role on the film, in which he plays LaBeouf's cruel boss, to that of a relief pitcher in baseball.
"You also have to try and give them some relief from the stress of doing that every day, all day long, 14, 15 hours a day for months," he explained. "I think with all the pre-planning and all the pre-production and all the storyboards and all the meetings, [Bay is] a filmmaker, so the film is really in his head. I think there are two kinds of people, then, who show up to work, whether they be actors or people on the crew: Either you're trying to help him define and communicate what's in his head, or you're not — or you're just there eating craft services."
Bay reciprocated that creative respect and support to his cast, Malkovich said, including first-time actor — and Megan Fox replacement — Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. "I thought he was very good with [Rosie], very patient, very pleasant and helpful," he said. "For her, that's a strain, if you've never done that before."

'The Social Network': The Reviews Are In!

Critics rave about the 'sizzling ethical-dramatic question' that drives David Fincher's latest.By Eric Ditzian

Justin Timberlake in "The Social Network"

Photo: Sony Pictures

Facebook was recently valued at $33 billion. The movie about its founding should do about .09 percent of that total during its opening weekend at the box office, and Sony will be damn happy about it.

The studio is currently low-balling box-office estimates — all the better to manage expectations and post-opening buzz for a flick getting near-universal rave reviews — but experts suggest "The Social Network" could potentially flirt with the $30 million mark. David Fincher's film is currently standing at 98 percent approval on the Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator, making it one of the year's critical darlings, just a notch below "Toy Story 3." Will positive word-of-mouth carry the movie past the mid-$20 million range and into the glorious $30 million realm?
Here's what the critics are saying. What will you be saying after the weekend?
The Story
"The creators of 'The Social Network' — screenwriter Aaron Sorkin ('The West Wing'), whose dialogue here is so sharp it could slice ribbons, and director David Fincher ('Zodiac') — have something tricky and emotionally complex up their sleeves. The story of how Zuckerberg put Facebook together, one Silicon Valley bong bash and venture-capitalist powwow at a time, is intercut with a pair of deposition hearings in which he faces down the two parties he ostensibly screwed over. The Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler (both played by Armie Hammer, with body-doubling by Josh Pence), are super-WASP Harvard crew champions who accuse Zuckerberg of ripping off their idea for a website that will allow Harvard students to interface with one another. Then there's Zuckerberg's partner, CFO and only friend, Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield), whom he ultimately leaves out in the cold. The sizzling ethical-dramatic question that drives 'The Social Network' is: Why did Zuckerberg betray these people? Or, in fact, did he really? — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
The Performances
"The script is filled with sharp, intense, witty writing, much of it performed at a thrilling rat-a-tat pace and played with sustained power. [Jesse] Eisenberg is at once furtive and bold and always unrepentant, Garfield is level-headed and decent, Hammer is very funny (and flawlessly rendered into two characters by Fincher), and [Justin] Timberlake, an increasingly impressive actor, has a merry time with his gladhanding jetsetter. Watch, too, as Douglas Urbanski steals a scene gloriously as Harvard president Larry Summers." — Shawn Levy, The Oregonian
The Director
"It's easy to see why the meticulous, technically gifted Fincher is drawn to Zuckerberg and the challenges of his story, and working from Sorkin's best script yet, Fincher has struck perfectly the balance between calculated and human filmmaking. No single moment of the film stands out as a showstopper, but the cumulative effect of all the skill and talent on display here is devastating by the end, as we're allowed to piece together for ourselves what this small story means for all of us." — Katey Rich, CinemaBlend
The Dissenters
"If it is true that 'The Social Network' defines the decade, as an ad blurb states, then that's just an accident of its shortcomings. We need to look deeper: It inadvertently defines an era when subterfuge and reprehensible behavior are accepted as a social norm — especially if it proves lucrative. No wonder mainstream media minions have flipped for 'The Social Network'; they recognize the fiat of technological privilege." — Armond White, New York Press
The Final Word
" 'The Social Network' is a great film not because of its dazzling style or visual cleverness, but because it is splendidly well-made. Despite the baffling complications of computer programming, Web strategy and big finance, Aaron Sorkin's screenplay makes it all clear, and we don't follow the story so much as get dragged along behind it. I saw it with an audience that seemed wrapped up in an unusual way: It was very, very interested." — Roger Ebert, The Chicago Sun-Times

"The Social Network" is a whodunit for the Internet age. Was the billion-dollar behemoth known as Facebook solely the idea of Mark Zuckerberg, a flip-flop-wearing hacker at Harvard? Or did he lie, cheat and steal his way toward Web glory, leaving wronged classmates in his egocentric wake?
That's the central question David Fincher explores in his new film, penned by Aaron Sorkin and starring Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg. The film delivers no easy answers, just a riveting, two-hour ride showcasing the creative energy and energetic backstabbing of young entrepreneurs in Cambridge and Silicon Valley.

MTV News friended the production early on, following every casting development and trailer release since the project was announced. Before you hit the theater this weekend, point and click your way toward total information awareness with MTV News' "Social Network" cheat sheet.
Friending Hollywood
Word leaked in June of last year that Fincher was circling the rather-straightforward project, a curious move for a director known for such a distinct visual style. What would a guy who brought Tyler Durden of "Fight Club" and John Doe of "Seven" to the screen do with a nerd from the Ivy League?
By the next month, there was still no official announcement about Fincher's involvement, and when we asked producer Kevin Spacey about his helming duties, Spacey responded, "I think we are close to announcing a director." September came, Fincher had signed on, and the search was on for the actor to play Zuckerberg. Names that cropped up on the Web included Eisenberg, Michael Cera and Paul Rust, but the role eventually went to Eisenberg (who'd previously issued MTV News a non-denial denial of his involvement. Justin Timberlake came aboard at the same time, followed by Andrew Garfield, Rooney Mara and Max Minghella.
"I just made a tape, probably 20 pages of dialogue, and sent in the tape because I live in New York City and they were casting in California," Eisenberg told us in January about the casting process. "Then they called me for a meeting. It was fairly painless."
Removing Privacy Settings
By that point, filming was already under way. The first official look at the film didn't arrive until June, delivering the memorable tagline, "You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies." The first teaser trailer dropped days later and contained not a single frame from the actual movie, just voice-overs and all-caps words like "punk" and "genius." As odd as it sounds, the trailer was as perfect as a teaser trailer can be. A second teaser popped up the next month: still with no film footage but with similarly intense voice-overs and imagery from Facebook pages themselves.
Not until the middle of July did we get our first glimpse of real "Social Network" footage. Set to a choral take on Radiohead's "Creep," the trailer gave us snappy dialogue, looks at Harvard's boozy social life and the backstabbing that began even before Facebook went online.
Status Updates
As the film's October release date approached, the cast began to speak more openly about the production. "Why actors love working with [Fincher] and why I loved working with him is because you try a scene in 200 different ways; you know he is able to edit together several different performances for each role," Eisenberg told us. "We would be often doing half the scene 60 times one way, then 60 times a little more engaged."
Timberlake spoke with us about how the film is potentially divisive. His personal experience was that some of his friends sided with Zuckerberg's version of events, while others agreed with his adversaries. "But one of my friends specifically said ... 'I don't 100 percent agree with any of the characters, but I don't disagree with any of them,' " Timberlake said. "Life is life. Things happen sloppily."
Life can also be cruel, which is why, even after making a movie so intimately tied to Internet culture, Eisenberg avoids reading about himself online at all costs. "I know that I'm written about online — we're all written about online," he told us. "It's incredibly painful to read it, so I stay off of it. People can write things that are terribly cruel because of the anonymity of the Internet."

'Social Network' Star Jesse Eisenberg Says Internet Can Be 'Cruel'

'It's incredibly painful to read it, so I stay off of it,' actor says of reading about himself online.By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf

Early in "The Social Network," a young Mark Zuckerberg returns to his Harvard dorm after getting dumped by his girlfriend. The future Facebook CEO fires up his computer and promptly begins to trash his ex online, writing on his blog, among other things, that she's hardly as busty as she likes to claim.
It's spiteful stuff, and leaves her in tears. And it's just that sort of harsh commentary that has led Jesse Eisenberg, who plays Zuckerberg in the new film, to avoid reading about himself online.

"I know that I'm written about online — we're all written about online," he told MTV News. "It's incredibly painful to read it, so I stay off of it. People can write things that are terribly cruel because of the anonymity of the Internet."
Not everybody on the Web, though, slings hate in his direction. In the summer of 2009, as word of a Facebook movie broke, we suggested Eisenberg was the best choice to play the curly-haired, flip-flop-wearing Zuckerberg. When we reminded Eisenberg that many folks on the Internet tagged him as the best fit for the role, he remained skeptical. "That happens to be something nice, but once you read something like that, you'll read 10 things that are bad, and then you can't sleep at night," he said.
At least he says that now. Back in the fall of '09, when Eisenberg's name came up in "Social Network" casting rumors, we asked the actor if there was any truth to all the gossip, and he jokingly admitted that he was an obsessive self-Googler.
"I read about that online. I search my name every day," Eisenberg deadpanned. "I do it manually, because Google Alerts you can't trust. I have a lawyer do it for me in my bathroom."

Greg Giraldo's Fellow Comics Pay Tribute At Long Island Event

Comics agree Giraldo was a 'genuine guy.'By Jessica Hyndman, with reporting by Ignacio Guzman

LEVITTOWN, New York — Comedian Greg Giraldo's passing, reportedly due to an accidental drug overdose, rocked the comedy circuit. While family and friends were shaken by the sudden death, they were allotted an outlet at the Governor's Comedy Club tribute and benefit show in Levittown, New York on Friday night.

The turnout was immense at the venue, where Giraldo was scheduled to appear, and the event raised over $3,000 in support for Geraldo's family. Club owner Marc Lund managed to organize the event on just two days notice, easily booking comedians from all across the state with tremendous support.
"We wanted to celebrate his life," said Lund. "A lot of comics use this as a release."
The show was opened and hosted by comic Joey Kola, followed by a slew of acts from the snarky Carie Karavas, veteran funnyman Melvin George, Joe Starr, Tim Gage and Darren Dillon just to name a few. Laughs were met with tears as each performer shared their stories of the late comedian.
"I met Greg before he was famous," Gage said, joking that he would tell Giraldo, who attended Harvard Law School and turned to comedy after working as a lawyer, "Don't tear up your law degree."
The general consensus of the night was the "King of Roasts" was a truly "genuine guy." Having worked with and served as a source of inspiration for many of the performers, Giraldo would watch the acts of upcoming comedians and offer straight-forward feedback.
George had the opportunity to open for Giraldo at his final show in New Brunswick, New Jersey and fondly remembered his comedic prowess. "It took the audience 30 seconds to forget about me once he got on stage."
The show closed with the reading of a heartfelt letter drafted by Ted Alexandro on Facebook. He spoke of Giraldo as a "maestro of comedy" and a "professor" to up-and-coming performers.
Following the reading, the club presented a video of Giraldo's acts. Audience members were visibly overcome by emotion and many fans felt the need to rush outside.
"I couldn't watch his video," said Hope Slovin, a longtime fan. "I had a lump in my throat the whole time."
The night a mixture of laughs and tears and provided a much-needed release for friends and much-appreciated funds for the family.
"When something like this happens, we all come together," Kola said.

Kim Zimmer Returns to 'One Life to Live' as Echo DiSavoy

Filed under: Reality-Free, Celebrity InterviewsHere she is folks! Reva Shayne Lewis! Echo DiSavoy!

Four-time Daytime Emmy winner Kim Zimmer, best known to soap opera viewers as fan favorite Reva on 'Guiding Light,' is returning to the soap world. She will reprise the role she portrayed 27 years ago, pre-Reva -- Echo DiSavoy on the ABC soap 'One Life to Live.' Her first air date is Fri., Oct. 1.

The mysterious and passionate Echo, who first hit the scene in 1983, was a brief, but memorable romantic obstacle for super-couple Viki (Erika Slezak) and Clint (then Clint Ritchie, now played by Zimmer's former 'GL' cast mate Jerry verDorn, ex-Ross.) The role ended abruptly and Zimmer was soon scooped up by 'GL' where she won viewers' hearts and devotion with her portrayal of Reva.

Guillermo Del Toro Says James Cameron Will Be 'Tough Ally' On 'Mountains'

'He's going to grill me every step of the way,' director tells MTV News about horror film Cameron is producing.By Eric Ditzian

Guillermo del Toro

Photo: MTV News

Guillermo del Toro has been dreaming about "At the Mountains of Madness" for well over 30 years. He read the H.P. Lovecraft story as a child and wanted to shoot a Super 8-assisted adaptation. Eighteen years ago he pitched his friend James Cameron on the idea of making "Mountains" into a feature. He tried to sell studios on the project too.
But nothing happened — until this July, when news broke that del Toro and Cameron were teaming up to adapt the horror story for the screen. Del Toro signed on to direct the 3-D feature, Cameron came aboard as a producer, and now the duo are deep into preproduction with an eye toward shooting next year.

After years of informally evaluating each other's work, they're now formal creative partners. To hear del Toro tell it, the duo will likely both concur and clash as they push forward on the production. Yet whether they're facing off or giving each other a hearty thumbs-up, both strong-willed men are sure of one thing: It's del Toro's movie.
MTV: The idea of collaboration between you and James Cameron is something that gets a lot of people excited — two seriously impressive movie nerds. Have the two of you been geeking out together on movies, space, aliens, 3-D, that sort of stuff?
Guillermo Del Toro: Jim has been one of my closest friends for the last 20 years, but we haven't collaborated. He always gets a thank-you on my movies and we always visit each other's editing room and design room. I've had the blessing of reading the screenplays before he shoots them. He was the first person who saw a first cut of "Cronos," and he gave me a line that is in the movie: "No, not my nose again!" He came up with that over lunch.
MTV: Why was this the project on which to formally collaborate?
Del Toro: "Mountains of Madness" requires everything we have technologically, pushing 3-D in horror in a way that is not just things coming at you, but to use it creatively in function of the genre, without the gimmicks. The first movie I pitched to him in 1992 was "Mountains of Madness." We got together and he'd seen the design we had generated in a couple weeks. He was blown away by the stuff we were doing. We have a small crew of designers. Five guys. And he came in and said, "You mean five guys in two weeks have done all this?" He has been very helpful with having notes on the screenplay, but the best part of working with Jim is he knows me, I know him and we had a very easy time having "the talk." I said, "Push comes to shove, it's my movie." And he said, "It's your movie, absolutely, no problem, I'm here to support you." He's going to be like he's always been: a tough ally. It's not like he's going to let me get away with everything. He's going to grill me every step of the way.
MTV: It seems like there are few people in this business who could go toe to toe with Cameron like that.
Del Toro: He's a guy I completely admire. This is a guy who, in every sense of the word, is formidable. This guy has literally gone to the depths of the ocean. He has pushed the medium. He's not the most successful filmmaker in history. He's the first and second most successful moviemaker in history.
MTV: Are you nervous at all to finally shoot with 3-D cameras?
Del Toro: My first lesson on 3-D came from the hand of Jim Cameron. I'm there with Jim all morning going through the PACE [camera] system of 3-D and I cannot think of a better teacher, so I was absorbing everything, discussing ideas with him. I'm all about depth. I was saying what attracts me about 3-D is not what comes out of the screen [but] the depth that you gain on the screen, how you are sucked into it rather than attacked by things. Jim had an absolutely Zen, Taoist moment and he said one of the best things I've ever heard about 3-D. He said, "What screen? There is no screen." I go, "Whoa, master."
That's the key if you want to use 3-D properly. You truly create a new reality. That moment with Jim was my clarity on the mountain.

Linkin Park's Chester Bennington Teases 'Saw 3D' Role

'There's going to be blood spattering at your face,' Linkin Park singer promises.By Kara Warner, with reporting by Matt Elias

Photo: MTV News

Those familiar with the "Saw" film franchise are fully aware that a
large part of the popular series' appeal — in addition to its
always-disturbing, gory action or trap sequences — is the veil
of mystery that surrounds each film's individual plot. The films are
not screened for critics, and it's difficult to get definitive details
from any of the actors or filmmakers before the film opens.
Such is the case with the upcoming "Saw 3-D." So far, all we have to
go on is , a cool-but-creepy and a painful-looking photo
of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington reaching out from the broken
windshield of a car.

When MTV News caught up with singer/actor Bennington recently, we
tried to get him to divulge a few details about his mysterious role in
the heavily hyped bloodfest.
"I can tell you that my name is Evan," Bennington offered. "Other than
that, I can tell you nothing else about the character."
Gee, thanks, Chester. What about the scene you're involved in then?
"The thing that is interesting about this particular scene is that
it's a trap set for multiple people," he explained. "Jigsaw, for those
who know the films, Jigsaw typically sets up traps for one, maybe two
people. There are never more people involved than that."
Until now, it seems.
"This particular trap is set up for multiple people, and it's a very
complicated trap that's been set. There are different kinds of
emotional things going on for my character, but it's very much in the
tradition of a good 'Saw' trap," Bennington promised. "And it's in
3-D, so there's going to be blood spattering at your face, which is
something that's going to be pretty bad-ass."
Check out everything we've got on "Saw 3-D."

Remembering Stephen J. Cannell: His Best Shows

Filed under: FeaturesBy now you've heard the terrible news that prolific producer/writer Stephen J. Cannell has died at the age of 69 of melanoma.

Not all TV producers/writers/creators are well-known, but Cannell was. That will happen when you are involved so many shows (in his case, more than 40). Even casual TV fans know the guy who rips the paper out of the typewriter and throws it up in the air at the end of his shows.

Since the 1960s, Cannell did many shows, either as a writer, creator, producer, or director (and sometimes all of those). He even acted, and had a recurring role on ABC's 'Castle.'

Jersey Shore Top Ten Catchphrase Countdown: Macaroni Rascals

VH1 TV Shows | Music Videos | Celebrity Photos | News & Gossip Fellow Juiceheads, did you hear the news that our loveable guidos and guidettes from the Jersey Shore are now being syndicated in Japan? It’s not surprising that the antics of The Situation, Snooki, DJ Pauly D and the others are garnering them fame on an international level, but this is: The show’s title in the Land of the Rising Sun is The New Jersey Life of Macaroni Rascals!!! Which, of course, is obviously the best name for a television program since, well, Best Week Ever (R.I.P.). Shame on you, Sally Ann Salsano, for not coming up with this title first! Now, on with this week’s Macaroni Rascals Top Ten Catchphrase Countdown! 10) “Um, well, for myself, I’m going to figure out what I want to do.” —Angelina So long, Trash Bags. So long, Staten Island Dump. You made it really hard for us to feel sorry for you this season, despite the fact that the rest of the Macaroni Rascals (especially The Situation) treated you pretty reprehensibly. What kind of an answer is this to a question? We included this clip in the Top Ten Catchphrase Countdown NOT as something that you and your friends should repeat, but rather, as a phrase that you should never, ever repeat. Good riddance, Angelina! 9) “I always have a good time when I go out to the club, but in the back of my mind, I’m thinking that I got a girl here. I got pajamas picked out already. This girl wants to bang me. I wanna go back to the crib.” —The Situation Our friends over at Crushable posed an interesting question this week: Is The Situation a one-hit wonder in bed? Judging from the sounds coming out of the Smush Room on this episode, one might be inclined to say that the Sitch rocked his little Maple Leaf’s world. However, the fact remains that he doesn’t get any, um, repeat business. Star printed an allegation this week that The Situation’s situation is the size of a “pinky,” so maybe that has something to do with it? After all, he is called The Situation and not The Package. Discuss! Also worth noting? We’re PRETTY sure Maple Leaf wasn’t wearing any undergarments at the club. Otherwise, why would MTV have blurred out the area around her skirt? Hardly a scene goes by in this show without an upskirt shot of some sort. 8) “They’re f*cking enjoying it. Don’t feed into their bullsh*t. If you wanna f*ck ten guys in one day, you can. That’s your f*cking business. So let’s go.” —Angelina’s Friend, Gina We’re all for women’s lib, really we are. Suffragette City and all that. But really, no one should be getting it in with ten people in one day, no matter if they’re dudes or chicks. Bad advice, Angelina’s friend! This guy knows what I’m talking about. 7) “Angelina probably left the Swiss cheese in the car, because we all know that rats love cheese.” —The Situation Yeah, not one of The Situation’s best quotes, we’ll admit. But what can we say? It was kind of a slow week at the Metropole. 6) “Make out with me. Make out with me.” —Snooki Poor Snooki. Ever since her breakup with Emilio and his meatballs, she hasn’t got any action (outside of a smash session with Vinny’s watermelon, of course). Well, she finally found someone this week who wasn’t a “grenade, grundle or chode,” but sadly, this guy was also an ex of Angelina’s. Her desperation while Snookin’ For Love was a little depressing, but she does win points for being aggressive! 5) “I think Angelina loves my sloppy seconds, ’cause she goes to Vinny, then she’s trying to go whats-his-name. If you wanna make out with me, just ask. I will say yes.” —Snooki See #6 above. 4) “To call me fake is some, it’s BLASPHEMY to talk against a leader like that. In other countries, you get hung for that type of sh*t.” —The Situation We sort of agree with Sitch here. Not about the hanging part, mind you, but about the being “fake” part. Sadly, we think the Sitch is all too real. The evidence is pretty clear that he’s bought into his own hype, which is why it’s good to see him getting taken down a peg or two each week on Dancing With The Situation. 3) “Yo, let’s get into this Nutella, pimp.” —Vinny We hear that! However, the bearer of the Watermelon Schlong needs to do a history lesson. Nutella does not come from Canada! It was invented by an Italian gentleman named Pietro Ferrero way back in 1946. 2) “What do i have to do to find a guy? This is like f*cking last summer all over again. What I would love to find is a guido juicehead with my personality, my style, and is not a cheater. Can i find that somewhere? ‘Cause I’m not going to go on Match.com again.” —Snooki Maybe try e-Harmony? If the marketing team over there hasn’t reached out to Snooks by the time this recap gets posted, they deserve to be fired. As great as this gem was, the REAL hottness was in the list that Snooki put together while working at the gelato shop. To that end, here are the complete transcriptions of Snooki’s likes and dislikes (that could go on her e-Harmony profile!): LIKES: Being stubborn, being tan, hoop earrings, dancing, house music, Deadmaus, regular pickles, party scenes, alcoholic beverages, people who “get, like me”, Ed Hardy, television, boats, pink, curly hair (rest indecipherable) HATES: Hangovers, boys/jerkoffs/fame whores, Miami boys, spicy foods, spicy pickles, spiders, the dark sharks, hardcore “techno”, fake people, smelly people, people, party poopers, debby downers, cookies, my exes. 1) “It’s ‘Wake Up The Whole Entire House Time’: The Song!” —DJ Pauly D and Ron Ron Every week, we praise Pauly D for the levity he’s been bringing to an otherwise drab season in M.I.A. Someone should bottle his enthusiasm and sell it as a rival product to 5-Hour Energy. CABS ARE HE-AH! Until next week, —Juice Springsteen PS: I have neglected to mention all these weeks that you have Pete Schultz to thank for the awesome Top Ten Montage videos. SVU Shows Off Mom-Like Knowledge Of Videogames And Gamers

Law And Order: Special Victims Unit, a show famous for not doing anything ridiculous ever, recently aired this completely not-ridiculous portrayal of a hardcore video gamer and his hardcore video gamer wife who lock their baby in a room in their giant-ass New York apartment, because of video games. The gamers then get pissed off at the police because “This is Level 20, the Kingdom of Galigar!” (were they playing this game?) and also because introverted antisocial gamers always lash out at detectives who arrest and interrogate them. Shut off that damn Nintendo! Congratulations, SVU, for continuing to not be ridiculous: The most not-ridiculous part of the video? This credit: Yup. It was co-produced by an entity named Speed Weed. Someone didn’t want to put their actual name on this product, like it’s a Cinemax softcore porn flick and the editor’s name is listed as “Max Boobs.” Also, the video game they’re playing is scenes from The Lawnmower Man: (via Videogum)Mariah Carey Demi Moore Sean Connery Vanessa Williams

To follow up the quirky, yet warm and fuzzy (because it's full of guys in panda suits) video for "Drunk Girls," LCD Soundsystem have enlisted some top-notch talent for their second video off This Is Happening, "Pow Pow." James Murphy and company have David Ayer ("Training Day") in the director's chair, along with Oscar-nominated actress Anna Kendrick as their clip's ingénue.

MTV News was lucky enough to visit the Los Angeles set of the video recently, where we chatted with Kendrick about how she came to be a fan of the British electro-dance group, as well as the star of "Pow Pow."
"I didn't have their new album," Kendrick admitted. "But this song is really cool too. The first time [I heard it], I was expecting straight-up melody or something. ... I can hear it every time we do a take, in my head. I'm kind of grooving. I can't help but groove to this song."
Kendrick added that she's a "pretty lame dancer," but that the opportunity was too good to pass up.
"It sort of came out of nowhere," she said of getting the gig. "David [Ayer] came up with this idea and asked me to do it. I've never done anything like this at all, so I was really excited about it. It's been really fun."
The "Up in the Air" and "Twilight" actress said her character in the video is just a normal, unassuming girl, but she's surrounded by enormous bodyguards, and the viewer isn't really sure why. Kendrick added that Ayer encouraged her to turn to a Hollywood classic for inspiration.
"He told me to watch 'Sunset Boulevard,' " she said. "He used that as a reference as what's going on underneath this girl."
Stay tuned for more from our visit to the set of "Pow Pow" and news on when you might expect to see the finished clip.

Perfect Video: Weatherman Doesn?t Realize Camera Is On

Well, here’s the best clip on the internet all week. NYC weatherman and jazz pianist Bill Evans apparently didn’t realize the camera was on him today, and it stayed on him just long enough for him to quip “Oh, hello” in a cartoony gay Bond villain voice, before promptly cutting to another (slightly more serious) story. Click the pic below to watch: We’ll assume the quote is a reference to These Guys. Oh local news gaffes — the internet would’ve gone out of business years ago if it weren’t for you.
